Florida's climate, hurricane season, and holiday rush all shape when you should start a remodel. The short answer: the best window for most Orlando-area renovations is January through May. But "best" depends on what you're renovating and how flexible your timeline is.

Why Timing Matters in Florida

Three Florida-specific factors influence remodel timing more than anywhere else in the U.S.

  • Hurricane season (June 1 – November 30) brings rain, supply disruptions, and possible work stoppages.
  • Humidity affects paint cure times, drywall finishing, and how quickly tile mortar sets — most professionals plan accordingly year-round, but it's a real factor.
  • Snowbird and holiday season (November – April) increases contractor demand for short-term turnaround work.

January – May: The Sweet Spot

For most Orlando remodels, January through May is the strongest window. Humidity is lower, hurricane risk is essentially zero, and supply chains are steady. You'll often see better project turnaround in this window because the post-holiday lull frees up contractor calendars.

This window is especially good for kitchen remodels (when you can't use the kitchen for weeks anyway), exterior painting (paint cures cleanly in 50–80% humidity), and any project requiring drywall finishing.

June – August: Doable With Tradeoffs

Summer is peak hurricane season but also when many contractors have more availability for indoor work. If you're renovating an interior space — bathroom, kitchen, basement / converted garage — and you don't mind possible weather-driven schedule shifts, summer can work.

Avoid scheduling exterior work (siding, exterior paint, roof-adjacent projects) during named-storm peaks in August and September unless you have a flexible timeline.

September – December: Holiday Season Realities

September and October are the riskiest months for hurricane-driven delays. November and December bring the holiday surge — contractors fielding "fix this before Thanksgiving" calls — which can stretch project starts into the new year.

If you want a remodel finished before Christmas, your project needs to start no later than mid-September for most kitchen / bath scopes, and earlier for whole-home work.

Project-by-Project Timing

A quick reference for the most common Orlando remodels.

  • Kitchen remodel: January–May (best) or June–August (acceptable if you can wait out a storm)
  • Bathroom remodel: Year-round indoors
  • Exterior painting: February–May; avoid June–September
  • Flooring: Year-round indoors
  • ADU or addition: Start permitting in December–January for a spring construction start
  • Commercial build-out: Year-round; align with tenant occupancy timelines
